Day Five: Disappointed with Nashville

 Our last big stop on our excursion was Nashville, TN.  We said "good-bye" to Southaven, MS and almost four hours later we arrived in Nashville.  The neat part about the drive up on I-40 is that the section between Memphis and Nashville is called "The Music Highway".  The little green highway department signs feature little music notes.  Just adorable.  We had to make a pit-stop. though in Bucksnort, TN.  Danny said that the only thing in Bucksnort, TN is a sex shop and a gas station.  He was wrong.  There's a sex shop, a once-upon-a-time gas station that is being turned into a Bar-b-q joint, and a "Welcome to Bucksnort sign, which is affixed to the privacy fence in front of the sex shop.

The skyline of Nashville is very modern.  Much like Charlotte, NC. Nashville has leveled most of its historical buildings and replaced them with steel and glass sky scrapers.  I was not impressed at all.  

It took us a few minutes to actually find the Country Music Hall of Fame.  Google maps weren't very accurate and the guy picking up trash wearing the yellow city work shirt didn't know where it was either.  That just seemed weird to me.  Once we found the building and got our tickets, the girl behind the counter was very helpful.  She guided us to a really good place to eat, which we went to after the museum tour.  We found all sorts of interesting things in the museum.  There was just so much to see.  Some of the highlights of the day were...

Nudie's Sewing Machine.

 This sewing machine used by Nudie Cohn. He is the guy who made all the flashy suits for the country singers.  Porter Wagner was the one to help put Nudie in the scene.  (Leave it to me to find a sewing machine in a country music museum.)

Once we were done touring the hall of fame, we headed eastward to Cookeville, TN.  This little town is super cute and reminds me of home.  

It's a train town with a depot and very clean Broad Street.

There's also a short bike trail than runs through town.  

Tomorrow, we are heading farther east to meet up with Danny and Carys.  We are tired, but have had so much fun on this trip.
